How Mac-Senior University came to be:
Mac-Senior University was created out of a dream of mine, to help Seniors learn what I felt was the fastest and easiest way to use technology. I was a technical neophyte when I retired from the world of commerce and bought my first Mac and I still am. I have yet to acquire the skills to use Social Media like I know I should…but I’m working on it and I’ll help you work on anything you want to learn too.
I know everyone learns differently, but there’s a reason the online video tutorial company Lynda.com, sold to LinkedIn for 1.5 billion dollars. It’s because video tutorials work so well and it’s how I learned myself. The Creatives at my local Apple store helped me the most, but much of it was such a different language to me that it was overwhelming and I wouldn’t remember how to do what they had taught me, until I did it enough times to cement it in my mind. But it was embarrassing to have to ask them the same question more than once.
After one of the Creatives at the Apple store made a QuickTime video tutorial for me to reference, I became a big fan of video tutorials because I could quickly watch it and say to myself “O yes…now I remember” and after just a few times, it was a tool in my technical belt that I knew how to use. Like learning that Moi in French is “Me”. You never forget it.
I am embarking on a mission to create video tutorials that will be free to Seniors all over the world, and will help them connect to their loved ones, and use the internet to their delight and advantage in safety and privacy. If these video tutorials help you, please tell others. There’s a whole wide wonderful world on the internet waiting for us to explore and its ours for just a little training and understanding of how to learn some easy conversational technology. It brings me great joy to offer these video tutorials to you and for you.
